Reports / Proposals / Statements of Qualifications
In many cases, Proposals and Statements of Qualifications are the first representation of an organization to a potential client.
Clear, organized presentation of information is obviously critical. Additionally, there exists an opportunity — through the document’s design — to convey that the firm has a special understanding or sensitivity to the project — and that, via this understanding, the firm can be a valued and trusted partner in achieving a successful outcome.

Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church: Cover and Spreads from Statement of Qualifications; Slides from Interview Presentation
The ancient story of Spyridon (the person) involves him utilizing a shard of pottery…and its constituent components (fire, water, and earth) to explain the Holy Trinity. He also later became the Patron Saint of potters.
I found Saint Spyridon’s story — and his storytelling — to have similarities to urban planning work. Planners frequently need to explain complex processes and procedures to people unfamiliar with planning. Also, as part of planning, practitioners frequently need to shift between macro and micro levels of work.
For a series of proposals and interview PowerPoint presentations, I used imagery of fire, water, earth, and a potter to brand our pursuit of their project. These images were used comprehensively throughout all collateral created for the pursuit of this project.

Davis Educational Center Statement of Qualifications: Cover and Spreads
Cover features an image (I selected) from architect’s site photographs. The tower was the most prominent “landmark” on the site at that time. The intent of featuring this image was to convey the firm’s appreciation and respect of the existing beauty of the project site.
Spreads depict combinations of graphics, photos, and typography within document grid system.

La Jolla Playhouse Donor Lounges Proposal
Cover uses a dramatically lit photo from backstage of a theater production. The proposal tile “Behind the Scenes” simultaneously alludes to the photo’s subject matter and the crucial role of donors. Typography references typewritten scripts.
