Chollas Creek Restoration
A series of eight bilingual signs for an interpretive trail along a restored urban creekThis signage was a component of the Chollas Creek Restoration project which received an Orchid Award by the San Diego Architecture Foundation in 2008.
Signage content included information relating to community vitality, local government programs, regional flora, streamflow science, and wastewater practices.
While I can certainly claim to be the designer of these signs, the final designs were the result of a highly collaborative process of working with numerous stakeholders including Javier Guerrero of Natural Perspectives Consulting (the company with whom I was contracted), City of San Diego staff, and Chollas Creek community groups.
A major challenge of this project was the composition of layouts with almost nonexistent negative space. Equally-weighted English and Spanish copy needed to be set as large as possible — and diagrams and graphics (also large in scale) needed to be placed near the corresponding English and Spanish text.
